Iarnród Éireann has announced that its newest station — Woodbrook DART Station — will officially open on Sunday, 10th August 2025.
Located between Bray and Shankill, the new station will serve both existing and planned residential developments in Woodbrook and Shanganagh, providing a vital transport link to support the growth of this south Dublin community.
Funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority, the project plays a key role in Ireland’s ongoing efforts to encourage sustainable travel and reduce dependence on private cars. It forms part of the strategic vision outlined in the Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Development Plan, which identifies Woodbrook as a designated ‘Future Development Area’.
With up to 2,300 new homes planned for the area, the station will be central to a compact and sustainable residential community — connecting it directly to the city centre and beyond via frequent, electric rail services.
Woodbrook Station will be served by up to 191 DART services every weekday, with an average journey time of just 40 minutes to key city centre stations.
The new facility will include:
Two 174-metre platforms with shelters, seating, lighting and customer information systems
A new pedestrian bridge with both ramped and stepped access
CCTV coverage and ticketing facilities
Secure bicycle parking
Provision for future pedestrian and cycling route connections
Access to the station is via Woodbrook Avenue, with major construction works beginning in November 2023 and completing on schedule.
Iarnród Éireann said it looked forward to welcoming passengers from the growing community:
“This is an exciting milestone in the development of the Woodbrook–Shanganagh area. With frequent, sustainable travel options now on the doorstep, residents will be better connected to jobs, education and leisure opportunities across the Dublin region.”
The opening of Woodbrook marks the 147th station on the national rail network.
