Public transport in Dublin during Christmas 2025
During Christmas 2025, Dublin’s public transport operators will run special holiday timetables. The summary below outlines how train, tram and bus services are operating throughout the festive period — but as always, it’s best to check a journey planner before travelling to get the most up-to-date information for your trip.
Trains (DART and Commuter)
Irish Rail will operate a mixture of late-night services, reduced timetables and early finishes. Here’s what passengers need to know:
Late-night DART and Commuter services run on 4, 5, 6 December, 11, 12, 13 December, and 18, 19, 20 December, with routes serving Howth, Greystones, Dundalk, Maynooth and Kildare. Example departures include: Pearse–Howth at 00:30/01:30, Connolly–Greystones at 00:35/01:35, Pearse–Dundalk at 00:40/01:40, Pearse–Maynooth at 00:27/02:10, and Pearse–Kildare at 23:55/01:58.
Christmas Eve features an earlier finish: Intercity services operate a weekday timetable with some cancellations, finishing around 18:00–20:30, while DART and Commuter routes follow a Saturday timetable with last departures around 19:25–21:00.
There are no train services on Christmas Day or St Stephen’s Day.
27 and 28 December follow normal Saturday and Sunday timetables (with some Intercity alterations).
On 29 and 30 December, Intercity services are reduced and revised, while DART and Commuter routes run Saturday timetables (including Cork and Portlaoise Commuter services).
New Year’s Eve uses a weekday Intercity timetable (with alterations) and Saturday-style DART/Commuter timetables. Extra DARTs operate for the 19:00 fireworks.
Additional late-night New Year’s Eve trains include: Pearse–Howth at 01:30/02:30, Connolly–Greystones at 01:35/02:35, Pearse–Dundalk at 01:40/02:40, Pearse–Maynooth at 01:20/03:05, and Pearse–Kildare at 00:55/02:58.
New Year’s Day operates with a reduced Intercity timetable and Sunday timetables on DART, Commuter, Cork Commuter and Portlaoise Commuter routes.
Full, normal service resumes on Friday 2 January.

Trams (Luas)
Luas will offer a combination of Night Luas, late regular services, and some early finishes over the Christmas period.
Night Luas operates on 12, 13, 19, 20 December and New Year’s Eve, with late-night trams on both the Red and Green Lines. Red Line departures include Tallaght-bound trams at 01:00/02:00/03:00 and Saggart-bound trams at 01:30/02:30. Green Line trams run every 30 minutes between 00:20–02:50 northbound and 00:36–03:06 southbound.
Regular late-night Luas services (non–Night Luas evenings) include The Point–Tallaght at 00:30 (Mon–Sat), Saggart–The Point at 23:49 (Mon–Sat), Broombridge–Brides Glen at 00:17 (Mon–Sat) and Brides Glen–Broombridge at 00:00 (Mon–Sat).
On Christmas Eve, Luas finishes at 20:00, with first services beginning around 05:30 depending on the line.
There are no Luas services on Christmas Day.
St Stephen’s Day begins at 09:00 with Sunday-style finishing times (for example: Tallaght until 23:00 and The Point until 23:30).
27–30 December follow Saturday or Sunday timetables depending on the day, with Tallaght services generally running 06:30–00:00 and The Point 06:30–00:30 on Saturday-style days.
New Year’s Eve uses Saturday timetables, finishing around midnight before Night Luas services begin.
New Year’s Day follows Sunday operating hours, typically 07:00–23:00 depending on the line.
Normal Luas operating hours resume from Friday 2 January.

Buses
Dublin Bus will operate a mix of weekday, Saturday and Sunday timetables throughout Christmas, with Nitelink services provided on key nights.
11–13 December and 18–20 December follow normal weekday/Saturday timetables with full Nitelink on each night.
On Sunday 21 December, a Sunday timetable operates with full Nitelink, but City Tours and Ghostbus do not run.
22 and 23 December use weekday timetables with full Nitelink; City Tours and Ghostbus remain suspended.
Christmas Eve uses a Saturday timetable with last departures around 21:00. Nitelink, City Tours and Ghostbus do not operate.
There are no Dublin Bus services on Christmas Day.
St Stephen’s Day uses a Sunday timetable with no Nitelink, City Tours or Ghostbus.
27 and 28 December operate Saturday and Sunday timetables respectively, with City Tours and Ghostbus running normally.
29 and 30 December use Saturday timetables with full Nitelink; 24-hour routes continue as normal.
New Year’s Eve operates a Saturday timetable with full Nitelink; all 24-hour routes run.
New Year’s Day uses a Sunday timetable with no Nitelink; City Tours operate and Ghostbus does not.
Normal weekday services resume from Friday 2 January.
