The August Bank Holiday Weekend (Friday 1st to Monday 4th August) is one of the busiest times of year on Dublin’s public transport network. With a mix of regular service changes and a major event—the Bray Air Display—passengers are strongly advised to plan ahead.

Here’s what to expect across the main transport operators.

Dublin Bus

  • Monday 4 August: A Sunday timetable will operate across all Dublin Bus services.

  • Nitelink:

    • Services will run as normal on Friday 1 August and Saturday 2 August.

    • No Nitelink services will operate on Sunday 3 August.

  • 24-hour Routes: Core routes on the C-Spine, G-Spine, and E-Spine networks will continue to run throughout the long weekend, including overnight hours.

Luas

  • Red and Green Lines are expected to operate a normal weekend schedule across the Bank Holiday, including Monday 4 August.

  • Some additional arrangements will be in place on Saturday 2 August for Bray Air Display attendees—see below for full details.

Passengers are advised to check luas.ie for up-to-date service notices.

DART and Irish Rail

  • Irish Rail services, including DART, are expected to operate on standard weekend and Bank Holiday schedules.

  • Additional capacity may be introduced on Saturday 2 August for travel to and from Bray.

Bus Éireann and TFI Local Link

  • Bus Éireann and TFI services will operate standard weekend schedules with no major changes announced.

  • Route 131 (Bray – Wicklow Town) continues to provide regular service for travellers in the area.

  • TFI Go and TFI Leap remain valid across participating services, including Dublin Bus, Luas, DART and commuter rail.

Bray Air Display 2025

The Bray Air Display takes place on Saturday 2 August 2025, and large crowds are expected at the seafront. With road closures and no public parking near the event, public transport is the best way to get there.

  • Event time: Ground entertainment from 12pm, aerial display from 3pm

  • DART: Most direct option to Bray; extra trains may operate

  • Dublin Bus: Local routes (e.g. L12, L14) subject to delays and diversions

  • Luas: Green Line to Brides Glen, then pre-booked shuttle bus to Bray South Car Park

  • Road closures: Strand Road, Sidmonton Ave, Putland Road and nearby streets closed from 10am

  • No parking: Strict bans and towing in effect; no overnight parking

  • Walking/cycling: Encouraged for local visitors; expect some restricted footpath access
